My Xbox MAME Arcade Cabinetby Dieter Koenig From October 29 to October 31 I visited Eurocon in Den Haag (Netherlands). One of the stars of that convention was an Arcade Cabinet with a built-in Xbox that ran MAME-X. The Xbox version of the famous Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator makes it possible to play any arcade game on a real cabinet, without changing the PCBs for every game, without setting up a PC, but simply using an Xbox console. I was immediately hooked on that idea and knew that I had to build one for myself. This will for sure take several weeks or even months, but it will be done! This log will show the progress of the project. 17 December 2004 After some search for an arcade cabinet in the last weeks, I finally ordered one today from a company in Lower Austria. It features 2-player controls with 4 buttons for each player, and it has a 28" screen (I am wondering how this monster will look like in my small room). Cost is apprx. 300 Euros, including one PCB (don't know which one so far). The company will clean and check the cabinet in the next days. It will be ready to be picked up in the last week of December or the first week of January. Using my dad's Honda CRV that shouldn't be a problem. 26 November 2004 Got the Xbox today. Works great! :-) 16 November 2004 Hmm, easy things first, so I ordered an Xbox today ;-) It is a used one. The guy who is selling it to me is pretty handy with modding Xboxes. He will install a new Aladdin Live mod chip and a new 80 GB harddisk. And he will also install all necessary software for me and tune the Xbox for MAME use :-) 02 November 2004 Ok, first I need an Arcade Cabinet, and that
is already one of the most difficult parts. The cabinet should have the
following features: If you happen to have such cabinet that are you willing to sell, or if you know anyone who would sell one, please let me know :-) Erstellt am 02.11.04. Zuletzt bearbeitet am 18.12.04. |
